Killinure NS Parents Council is celebrating its 10 th year!

Established in 2014, the Parent’s Council remains very active and present in the lives of the Killinure NS Children and their families. From that first cup of coffee with other new parents at the Junior Infants introductory hour in June, the Parent’s Council forms an integral part of the Primary school experience. Spooky Halloween parties, magical Santa visits, personalised Christmas cards and Christmas Jumper Days make the first semester fly for the children. The new year offers social and fundraising opportunities such as the annual table quiz and a post Sunday mass coffee morning.

Fundraising forms an essential part of the Parent’s Council and we try to make this as fun and simple as possible. Our methods include an iDonate website, (https://www.idonate.ie/fundraiser/KillinureNSparentscouncil23), colours day at school, bucket collections at our local churches, coffee mornings, table quizzes and the occasional bag pack in Dunnes, Childers Road. We are lucky to be situated within a generous community who take great pride in their local area and willingly give back to the
school that many themselves have attended.

The Parent’s Council exists to provide joy and fun to the children as they make memories together in our proud school. In the past, aside from facilitating visits to the school from Santa, the Easter Bunny and a very friendly ice cream van driver, the Parent’s Council has contributed money and manhours to the First Holy Communion and Confirmation celebrations, as well as the annual Graduation night and ‘right of passage’ graduation hoodies. The Parent’s Council has also directly contributed to the cost of children’s swimming lessons, school tour buses, the ASD units and recently subsidised the school’s
book rental scheme.

All parents/guardians of children attending Killinure NS are deemed members of the Parents Association. An AGM is held in September each year where a Parent’s Council is elected to lead the activities of the Parent’s Association. Last month, the existing council stepped down to make way for the next cycle of volunteer parents. We thank them all for their contribution over the years.

Laura Leahy was elected as chair and is supported by Laura Tobin, Secretary and Freda Liddane, Treasurer. Sarah Butler has kindly continued with the PC and is joined by newcomers Marguerite Egan and Oonagh O’Brien. The School’s Board of Management is represented by Beibhinn Maguire and Declan Barry.

The Parent’s Council could not operate effectively without the help of subcommittee members, class representatives and many, many parents and helpers who all give up their time and feed into the PC. We will meet Thursday 17 th October at 8.30pm in the school hall and welcome any
newcomers and fresh ideas.
