Senior Infants work for Wednesday, January 8th

  1. Busy at Maths: pg 17
  2. Shared Reader:
  • Discuss pictures.
  • Focus on any new/tricky words…can you think of any words that rhyme with the new words?
  • Model reading the book to them, then get them to read it back to you. Check fluency.
  • Ask questions about the content.
  • Get them to retell the story in their own words

  1. Chat about Winter:
  • What are the 3 months of winter?
  • What types of weather occur in winter?
  • What kind of clothing would you wear in winter?- get them to list as many as possible.
  • Can you name 3 differences between winter and summer? Which season do you prefer and why?
  • What do they know about animals who hibernate in Winter?
  • Watch/ discuss the Youtube video ‘Hibernation for Kids’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDUNhiyIKOc
  • Draw and colour a detailed Winter picture, based on your chat.

  1.  Movement breaks (YouTube):

Type in ‘Winter movement break for kids’ and complete a few of choice.

  1. Handwriting app:

In preparation for starting handwriting homework next week,

have a look at this useful link, https://app.edcohandwriting.ie/, based on our handwriting programme.

  • Focus on ‘Pre-Cursive A’ section today (lower case letters)
  • Click on this section and have a browse through the warm-up exercises (always do these before commencing writing), pre-writing activities and try the letter-matching memory game.
  • The letter formation section is excellent for showing your child how to form each letter correctly, before they try it themselves.
